Logic Monkey believes that "Ideas Have Consequences"

One week ago today, June 15, 2005, Logic Monkey posted this on his blog. (He thought he whisked it away like an Afghan to Gitmo, but thanks to Google cache, his legacy lives on.)

Enjoy:

Ideas have consequences

Human Events has published an interesting list, Ten Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th Centuries. Coming in at number one is, of course, "The Communist Manifesto". I am proud (ashamed?) to say that I've read some of the books on that list when I was at St. John's College. "Das Kapital", by the way, in addition to being a bad economic book, is the absolute most dreadfully boring thing you will ever have to read.

I am happy to see that John Dewey's book, "Democracy and Education" is on the list. I remember during student teaching how much Dewey was lauded as a "hero". I personally think he was America's most evil man, because he is responsible more than anyone else for the mess that is the public education system.

Every list is, by definition, kind of silly. Where is the original idiot liberal, Rousseau, for example? Oh, well- we can't have everything.

So, do "ideas have consequences," or is holding someone to account for their hate speech wrong?

That seems to be the choice we with which we are left.

Man, accountability stings like a bitch...

Here's a post from Chris (Logic Monkey) on someone else's blog entirely.

anyway- I stand by my statement that you are all selfish- and chronological snobs- because you got here first, you think it gives you the right to kill other who come after you...

as for the death penalty- that is a red herring. The law says "thou shalt not murder". murder is the taking of an innocent life. A person convicted of a serious crime is not innocent. Therefore, execution is not the taking of innocent life.

Again, spare me this "I care about innocent people" garbage- becaus if you search yourself deep down, the only reason you say that is because you don't want to admit what a rotten person you are. The only difference between you and Hitler was that Hitler has the guts to go through with what he believed in. You are just as rotten and evil, but lack the means and the will. That's what original sin menas, after all.

Into battle

You may have noticed some more comments than usual. Fine- let them snark away. The more you talk, boys, the more you expose who you are.

Now, onto some thoughts-

1. If you pull a gun- kill a man, otherwise known as the "don't cry wolf" maxim. I've been thinking about it a lot recently as regards the left. Bush is Hitler, Bush stole the election, the religious right is the American Taliban, blah blah blah....well, if that is true then why doesn't the left actually do something abot it? I mean, something more than just staging yet another stupid protest march in which a bunch of paper machie puppets block traffic in mainly liberal cities. As I have said many times- staging a protest in New York City is nothing- let those little shits pull that in any rural town in the this country and let's see how long they last.

No, really- if Bush is that bad, just voting him out of office isn't good enough. Remember his finger is on the nukes button. If Bush is really as bad as you say, I think it's your moral obligation to kill him and everyone who votes Republican. If you don't think it's your duty to kill us, then stop saying such horrible things about us.

2. The Left and Religion. Gee, it's really quite funny to hear lefties sneer about how religious people are "sheep" out of one side of their mouth, and then, out of the other, claim to care that we are being "used". How goddam condescending can you be? Do you all really think that conservative Christians are so stupid? Oh, wait, yes you do. I blame that vile "What's the matter with Kanas" book. Look, if you hate us, hate us- don't pretend to care about us.

So, by identifying this guy to the world, I accepted his challenge. He claims that if he's as bad as I think, then he needs to be killed. I highly doubted that. I thought it would take much less to get the better of him.

Violence doesn't solve anything. His assertation that it was a moral obligation to kill those with whom you had a stark ideological difference was clearly absurd.

I did feel that someone who said such things ought to be held accountable. So I did so.

That's how it is. Everything in life has consequences. He acted as if that wasn't true. I showed him what the consequences could be. He recoiled in horror.

I find it sad an pathetic that someone could spend two years of their life spreading hate, feel so suddenly ashamed the moment their name is put to their behavior.

I made him look in the mirror.

The sad tale of the pathetic soul who calls himself Logic Monkey...

As many of you may have read here, Logic Monkey is quite a detestable person. He slung profanity and epithets that Dick Cheney wouldn't have thought to use on the Senate floor.

He was for the war, and in favor of torture, but made clear his position on serving himself. "It's not my damn job to enlist," he said.

So, I used publicly accessible information to find out who he was. It was mainly information that I garnered from his blog.

Once I knew who he was, I posted a link to his profile on the website of the school at which he is currently corrupting the minds of innocent children with his hate mongering.

This elicited a response that was quite amusing. You can see it below. He threatened to call the police. Knowing he had no cause of action and checking with my in house attorney, (The Hippy's Wife) I confirmed that his threat of legal consequences was about as uninformed and laughable as everything else he says.

Ultimately, the problem with Logic Monkey was that he would say things and spew hate at complete strangers as if he were unaccountable or didn't care what people thought.

Once he discovered that his illusions of anonymity were about as real as the President's reasons for going to war with Iraq, he revealed himself to be the scared little miscreant we always knew he was.

He was embarrassed. He was ashamed. He was scared that I actually would put up the email address to his School's headmaster and encourage everyone to scour his blog and the comments he's left elsewhere and send the headmaster their favorite bits.

This was unacceptable to him. He knew he was living a double life. One as a good Christian teacher of children, and the other as a hate monger who found human life contemptible and wanted nothing more to make believe he was justified in saying the vile things he said.

As recently as this morning, he left the following comment on one of my earlier posts.

the Logic Monkey said...
Well, Okay, I learned my lesson. You win. Still, it's you and the left that has contempt for human life. You kill babies. You killed Terri Schiavo. You don't care one whit about innocent people in Iraq, except that it's Bush's war, and you hate Bush.
8:41 AM

Clearly, he hadn't learned his lesson. For the record I want to say that I have not killed any babies, and Terri Schiavo died 15 years ago, and I wasn't the least bit responsible.

But, this comment drew the ire of someone, and despite any claims to the contrary, it wasn't me. But that someone left a comment in response to the above nonsense.

Here is that comment for your enjoyment:

No, I don't believe you have learned quite yet. The resident Hippy has a sense of humor, but basically did nothing more than embarrass you.

Let me clarify some things for you:

I don't have contempt for human life; I have contempt for yours, Chris.

I don't hate war; I hate senseless war, and the advocacy of cowards who have never worn a uniform or badge, nor had to fight for anything other than the justification of their own egocentric opinion, yet feel it incumbent upon themselves to ask others to fight wars they will not.

You are a shining example of the worst sort of American, one who feels entitlement without responsibility.

But you can't escape accountability, because it isn't entirely your decision whether or not others hold you accountable for your actions. Now that we are an e-mail away from notifying anyone you have ever meaningfully known of your each and every transgression, I think you'll find the leash very short indeed.

I would strongly suggest you consult an attorney about the technical definition of harassment...specifically, I would encourage you to read between the lines and take note of what is not considered harassment.

Truly enlightening.

Rest assured, if you haven't learned your lesson, you are comment away from having it branded across your forehead.

Now there are good people on the right who believe in the good that the invasion of Iraq could bring. They understand that war is horrible, but sometimes necessary. They also tend to understand that the torture of other human beings is reprehensible and we as Americans should be above such acts.

The questions was never are we like the terrorists. The question is really, are we different enough?

Some people refuse to see the distinction. Logic Monkey was an obvious example of someone who loved death and war and torture. Beyond loving it, he celebrated it. I found it disgusting that a person could be so crass. I found it sick that his moral relativism told him that since certain Islamic extremists had taken to cutting off heads, that anything we did short of that was perfectly acceptable.

Despite all of his hypocritical harping that the left was guilty of "Moral Relativism," he was the biggest practitioner.

So, imagine my surprise that the person who didn't care at all what people thought of him, who claimed such moral superiority on issues involving the sanctity of human life, and squealed with glee every time new stories of torture emerged, left the following comment on this blog.

Sure enough, clicking over to his blog, which you can do here, shows that he indeed did indeed take it down.

Ultimately, his downfall lies in this very simple explanation. He was ashamed of himself. He was afraid of accountability. He knew that if the people he associates with in the real world were to see the things he had written over the last 2 years, there would be consequences.

That's difference between someone like me, who attempts to be thoughtful and well reasoned, and someone like Logic Monkey who is nothing but a hate monger.

I acknowledge that others have different points of view from me. That's fine. I will try and persuade them or counter them. But, unlike the cowardly and pathetic Logic Monkey, I am not ashamed of anything I have to say.

I am fine with ANYONE whether I know them or not reading ANYTHING that I have ever posted.

The fact that he is so scared and so ashamed out to make clear to him that he needs to do some soul searching.

So I leave Logic Monkey with one simple question. I encourage him to close his eyes and pretend his child or any of the students in his class were to ask him this question.

Breaking: WMD claims were 'totally implausible'

WMD claims were 'totally implausible'

Richard Norton-Taylor
Monday June 20, 2005

Guardian

A key Foreign Office diplomat responsible for liaising with UN inspectors says today that claims the government made about Iraq's weapons programme were "totally implausible".
He tells the Guardian: "I'd read the intelligence on WMD for four and a half years, and there's no way that it could sustain the case that the government was presenting. All of my colleagues knew that, too".

Carne Ross, who was a member of the British mission to the UN in New York during the run-up to the invasion, resigned from the FO last year, after giving evidence to the Butler inquiry.

He thought about publishing his testimony because he felt so angry. But he was warned that if he did he might be prosecuted under the Official Secrets Act.

"There was a very good alternative to war that was never properly pursued, which was to close down Saddam's sources of illegal revenue", he says.

Mr Ross also says sanctions imposed against Iraq were wrong. "They did immeasurable damage to the Iraqi civilian population. We were conscious of that but we did too little to address it", he says.

Earlier, after the September 11 attacks on the US, Mr Ross spent six weeks in Afghanistan negotiating with warlords. "The allies didn't understand Afghanistan," he says. "They didn't have sufficient forces on the ground, were trapped in their fortified compounds, naive about the the willingness of the warlords to cede power, and were far too optimistic that opium production could be curtailed."

Mr Ross has set up a consultancy and advisory service, Independent Diplomat, and wants to raise awareness about the plight of the Saharawi people, displaced by Morocco from Western Sahara in defiance of the UN security council.

He plans to visit the 150,000 refugees from Western Sahara encamped across the border in northwest Algeria. "British policy is to do nothing because British interests dictate that fairly minuscule trade with Morocco is more important," he said.

Logic Monkey cannot handle people knowing who's actually saying the crap coming out of his mouth...

Earlier, I had posted a link to Logic Monkey’s real name that his employer has as a publicly accessible page on the internet.

I subsequently received the following comments.

the Logic Monkey said...
You are sorry loser- remove this personal information righ this very instant or I will go to the police. You have no right to post me personal information. Cease and desist.

And

the Logic Monkey said...
again, you goddamm piece of subhuman scum- remove my personal information.
9:56 PM

What's great about this is simple. This is all public info.

I found it on THE INTERNET.

This is not so personal.

This is public info.

Hmmmmmm.

I'll consider taking it down, but it's quite funny to watch what a sniveling little bitch he is.

Oh, and in case you want to go over to his blog at http://logicmonkey.blogspot.com , you find that he's suddenly embarrassed about what a naughty boy he's been.

Suddenly doesn't want his hypocrisy shown to the world.

Sad Sad Sad.

Well, just to be clear, let me say what I have done here.

I found Logic Monkey to be an unaccountable little shit. His contempt for human life and doing the right thing was quite offensive to me.

He said some of the vilest things imaginable and there weren't really in line with his purported "Christian values."

So, I looked through his blog. He was kind enough to have said all kinds of things that clearly identified him.

I noticed that he was a teacher from Durham.

He teaches history and logic.

He also had a post saying he was the new Sunday Morning DJ at WXDU, Duke's campus radio station, for the spring 2004 semester. 6-8 if I remember correctly

Then I went to that station's website and looked to see who that was. I got a first initial and a last name.

It was an unusual last name. So I used Google to search WXDU's website for that last name.

Ah, then comes the full name.

Now, also gained from his blog, was the fact that he teaches at a private Christian school.

So I used Google to look up the private schools in Durham.

After going through a couple, I found a teacher of logic and history with that same name!

Well, that clearly him.

I then linked to his publicly available information on that website.

But sad pathetic logic monkey feels that this is information that no one has the right to post.

He's going to call the police and tell them that he was acting like an ass on the internet and he wanted to remain anonymous, but that I put up a link that showed his first and last name and where he went to college.

Boo hoo. Such a crime.

So, here is how it is. He was running his virtual mouth, thinking that he was so anonymous. He has now been held accountable.

He is a spineless worthless coward.

So, now everyone knows how I found him. You can do the same. His delusion that his information is private is rather sad.

His delusion that I have done ANYTHING which the cops would give a shit about is also laughable.

Listen, Logic Monkey.

If you don’t want people to know who you are, then don’t act like an asshole in a public forum.

Maybe now would be a good time to enlist in the Army and go to Iraq so you can hide from what is so clearly your public shame.

Do you have anything else you would like to add, CR?

I’ve taken down the link. You can go cry yourself to sleep tonight knowing how easy it is to out you.

Do you think the administration of a certain Christian School in Durham read blogs?

Hehehe. You are now owned, bitch.

Let that be then end of your nonsense.

Logic Monkey cannot handle people knowing who's actually saying the crap coming out of his mouth...

Earlier, I had posted a link to Logic Monkey’s real name that his employer has as a publicly accessible page on the internet.

I subsequently received the following comments.

The Downing Street Memo is fake...

Well, not really. But that's what the right-wing blog world would like you to believe.

Finding no way to dissuade people from being interested in the fact that their President lied to them in order to start a war with Iraq, the wingnuts have turned to an old trusty play.

You see, the claim is now that the Downing Street Memo is fake. I guess all of the others are fake too.

From CaptainsQuartersBlog:

The media and the Leftists have had a field day with the Downing Street memos that they claim imply that the Bush administration lied about the intelligence on WMD in order to justify the attack on Iraq. Despite the fact that none of the memos actually say that, none of them quote any officials or any documents, and that the text of the memos show that the British government worried about the deployment of WMD by Saddam against Coalition troops, Kuwait and/or Israel, the meme continues to survive.

Until tonight, however, no one questioned the authenticity of the documents provided by the Times of London. That has now changed, as Times reporter Michael Smith admitted that the memos he used are not originals, but retyped copies (via LGF and CQ reader Sapper):

The eight memos — all labeled "secret" or "confidential" — were first obtained by British reporter Michael Smith, who has written about them in The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times.
Smith told AP he protected the identity of the source he had obtained the documents from by typing copies of them on plain paper and destroying the originals.

The AP obtained copies of six of the memos (the other two have circulated widely). A senior British official who reviewed the copies said their content appeared authentic. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the secret nature of the material.

Readers of this site should recall this set of circumstances from last year. The Killian memos at the center of CBS' 60 Minutes Wednesday report on George Bush' National Guard service supposedly went through the same laundry service as the Downing Street Memos. Bill Burkett, once he'd been outed as the source of the now-disgraced Killian memos, claimed that a woman named Lucy Ramirez provided them to him -- but that he made copies and burned the originals to protect her identity or that of her source.

Why would a reporter do such a thing? While reporters need to protect their sources, at some point stories based on official documents will require authentication -- and as we have seen with the Killian memos, copies make that impossible. The AP gets a "senior British official" to assert that the content "appeared authentic", which only means that the content seems to match what he thinks he knows.

This, in fact, could very well be another case of "fake but accurate", where documents get created after the fact to support preconceived notions about what happened in the past. One fact certainly stands out -- Michael Smith cannot authenticate the copies. And absent that authentication, they lose their value as evidence of anything.

Uh, yeah. Except.

From Kevin Drum at the Washington Monthly:

DOWNING STREET DELUSIONS....The wingnuts are getting desperate. Captain's Quarters, in a nostalgic attempt to recreate the glories of Rathergate, suggests that the Downing Street Memos aren't real. Why? Because Michael Smith, the reporter who got hold of them, had them retyped to protect his source and then returned the originals. Jonah Goldberg feverishly calls CQ's revelations a "must read."

Now, unlike the Killian memos that were at the center of Rathergate, there are quite a few principals in this case who either wrote or received these memos and therefore have absolute knowledge of whether or not they're genuine. The first memo, for example, was written by Matthew Rycroft and distributed at the time to David Manning, Geoff Hoon, Jack Straw, Peter Goldsmith, Richard Wilson, John Scarlett, Francis Richards, Richard Dearlove, Jonathan Powell, Sally Morgan, and Alastair Campbell. So far, not a single one of these people has claimed they're fake.

In fact, just the opposite. Here's Tony Blair himself on May 1, the day the first memo was published:

In a Sunday morning television interview, Mr. Blair did not deny that the meeting took place in July 2002, but he recalled that "subsequent to that meeting, we went the United Nations route," seeking a resolution in November 2002, calling on the Iraqi government to disarm.

Here's Knight Ridder on May 5:

A former senior U.S. official called it "an absolutely accurate description of what transpired" during the senior British intelligence officer's visit to Washington. He spoke on condition of anonymity.

Here's the Washington Post on June 12:

Excerpts were made available to The Washington Post, and the material was confirmed as authentic by British sources who sought anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the matter.

Give it up, guys. They're real.

Amen, Kevin.

They're real.

Beef. It's what'll kill you.

Don't get me wrong. I like meat. I love beef. I LOVE a good ribeye.
That being said, it utterly freakin' ridiculous (but not surprising) that our Corporate-Owned Federal Government refuses to regulate our food supply in basic ways to keep up safe.

From MSNBC's David Shuster:

Since this is the time of year when so many of us head to barbecues, I want to alert you to a story you need to know. Our federal government is putting all of us at risk of mad cow disease. And the incompetence and erratic approach of the Department of Agriculture has become so bizarre that one begins to wonder if some officials at that agency are deliberately trying to get fired.

First, a refresher: Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy or BSE is an infectious disease in cattle that causes their brains to degenerate. Animals with the disease will often stagger and become hopelessly agitated before they die, thus the name “mad cow.” The disease is usually fatal to people who eat infected beef. And since the proteins that cause the disease can survive temperatures hot enough to melt lead... turning a hamburger into a hockey puck (while killing off other potential problems) will not make BSE meat safe to eat.

At the moment, there appears to be an outbreak of mad cow disease in Japan... and American researchers are incredibly nervous that we may be on the verge of a deadly mad cow outbreak here in the United States. That’s what makes the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s approach so troubling.

As it stands, the U.S. Department of Agriculture refuses to even consider the main recommendations put forward by the World Health Organization that have stopped mad cow disease across Europe. What are these recommendations? The first is testing. The other is to stop the practice of feeding cow blood, tissue, and slaughterhouse waste to other cows.
I can hear some of you now: “Come on, Shuster, that feeding practice is so grotesque it couldn’t possibly be happening in the United States.”

Actually, it is happening a lot. Sure, there are some livestock producers who don’t give their animals the kind of feed that contains cow blood or waste. But many livestock producers do.
And the fact is, much of the commercially produced calf feed available today contains the very stuff that could spread mad cow disease throughout our food chain.

What is the Department of Agriculture doing about this? Nothing. As I said, the Department of Agriculture refuses to even consider stronger regulations that would put an end to this disgusting practice. But it gets even worse. The department is doing everything it can to assure the public that our food chain “is safe.” Thus, we have a ridiculous pep rally like the one on Thursday at the University of Minnesota. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns will, as his press release says, “hold a roundtable discussion regarding the safety of North American beef...” Those invited to participate include USDA officials, producers, packers, and others.
Who are the others? Groups that don’t want more testing and don’t want the government passing regulations that would make calf feed cleaner and thus slightly more expensive. In fact, consumer groups, organic livestock companies, and beef producers who oppose allowing cows to eat cow blood and slaughterhouse waste will not be allowed to participate.

The irony is that if the Department of Agriculture really cared about the U.S. meat industry, the department would add a little pain now to prevent the industry from being decimated down the road when an outbreak occurs and nobody wants to buy U.S. meat. But once again, it’s all about short-term profits and paying back your political contributors. And consumers are left holding the bag... or in this case, mourning the deaths of loved ones who could die suddenly from the human form of BSE.

Did I mention that American scientists are tracking a mysterious spike in the U.S. of the human form of BSE, known as Creutzfeldt Jakob disease?

I apologize if this blog about cows eating slaughterhouse waste has made you lose your appetite. But, tell that to your congressman or senator. Maybe they will have better luck getting explanations from the government officials who are supposed to be responsible. My calls today to the Department of Agriculture were not returned.

Questions/comments: DShuster@MSNBC.com

Seriously, when the beef hits the fan and we have an outbreak, and it cripples businesses like McDonald's, I am willing to bet that the Republicans try to blame the Democrats, which will be pathetic, because they're in charge and have the power to prevent this.

To bad people dying of Mad Cow disease don't spend millions on lobbyists.
