From Today's Washington Post:

Miers, of course, has been the White House counsel and a longtime member of Bush's legal team -- both in Washington and, before that, in Austin. She was the one who helped him vet judicial appointments, including the most recent and momentous of them, the elevation of John Roberts from federal appellate judge to chief justice of the United States. It is impossible to believe that Roberts and others were discussed without either Bush or Miers mentioning abortion. They must have stood the entire time.

There is, however, another possibility: code. It's conceivable that Bush and Miers developed a secret language for talking about abortion. For instance, when vetting judicial appointees, Bush might have asked, "Is he pro-banana or anti-banana?" Miers would then look around, point to the walls (which have ears even in the White House) and say, "anti-banana." Then she would take another file from the pile marked "anti-banana" and recommend that person to the bench. Bush, knowing the code, might then ask, "Where does he stand on late-term bananas," or "bananas on demand?" or something really clever like that. Maybe this code was developed by George Tenet, late of the CIA and the recipient of a presidential medal for getting nearly everything wrong about Iraq. The CIA knows some dandy codes.

The clever use of code words or the ability to stand for a long time while discussing abortion might seem far-fetched, but there is no other way to explain the assurances that the very important James C. Dobson has offered his fellow conservative Christians regarding Miers. "When you know some of the things that I know -- that I probably shouldn't know -- you will understand why I have said, with fear and trepidation, that Harriet Miers will be a good justice," he told his radio listeners. Then, referring to aborted fetuses, he added, "If I have made a mistake here, I will never forget the blood of those babies that will die will be on my hands to some degree." So said the founder of Focus on the Family about a Supreme Court nominee who has none at all.

It would have been an appropriate code as well, for James Dobson is bananas. From all appearances he seems less interested in Jesus than he does at making sure the country knows that the White House consults him on things.

What was it the right was calling Cindy Sheehan? That's right, Media Whore.

James Dobson is a Media Whore.

From today's New York Times...

Wow...

AUSTIN, Tex., Oct. 10 - "You are the best governor ever - deserving of great respect," Harriet E. Miers wrote to George W. Bush days after his 51st birthday in July 1997. She also found him "cool," said he and his wife, Laura, were "the greatest!" and told him: "Keep up the great work. Texas is blessed."
Ms. Miers, President Bush's personal lawyer and his selection for a Supreme Court seat, emerges as an unabashed fan in more than 2,000 pages of official correspondence and personal notes made public on Monday by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission in response to open-records requests.

Mr. Bush returned the admiration, the files show. After Ms. Miers's birthday wishes, he wrote thanks and a "happy 52nd to you." He added, "I appreciate your friendship and candor - never hold back your sage advice."

The documents, including many minutes of meetings of the Texas Lottery Commission, which Ms. Miers headed, shed little light on her legal thinking, but underscore her ties to Mr. Bush. Because of their closeness and her lack of a judicial record, some critics have dismissed Ms. Miers as a crony unworthy of nomination to the court but for her confidential service as the president's lawyer.

Others question whether their bond could undermine the separation of powers of the executive and judicial branches.

At least when Bill Clinton worked with women who irrationally worshipped him, all he did was fool around with them. Can you imagine what would have happened if he had named Lewinsky to the head of a federal agency, much less SCOTUS?

George W. Bush is the worst President ever, and in light of that his pick seems very fitting.

The Hippy's wife needs a Lawyer Job. If you have any leads, email the hippy at thehippy@oklahomahippy.com

Anyone got any ideas for this wonderful new attorney?

Things to not do...

I am watching Maria Full of Grace, and it has caused me to make a life decision. I don't believe I will ever be working as a Colombian drug mule.

Oh, and I still hate George Bush.

The Magic of Editing...

So do you ever sit alone in the dark and wonder how RoveCo was able to sell to the American people this idea of George W. Bush as a great leader?

Well dear people it's the magic of editing, and I offer you a perfect example of how wildly divergent a package can be from the truth.

Most people have seen Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining." Jack Nicholson at his creepiest. Well, someone has re-edited the movie into a 1 minute trailer for a feel good movie called "Shining."

Take what you know about the truth (The Shining)and how it was packaged in such a way that it looks like a movie that would warm your heart (Shining).

Now understand that this is how George Bush was sold to the People of the United States of America.

Click here to see the trailer for "Shining."

Let me know what you think.

Christian Coalition Leader Molested his 3 daughters...

From Editor and Publisher:

NEW YORK After news broke that local law enforcement officials were investigating complaints that Louis Beres, longtime chairman of the Christian Coalition of Oregon, had molested three female family members when they were pre-teens, The Oregonian in Portland went out and interviewed Beres' family members.

Two told reporters that Beres, indeed, had molested them. All three said they have been interviewed for several hours by detectives.

"I was molested," said one of the women, now in her early 50s. "I was victimized, and I've suffered all my life for it. I'm still afraid to be in the same room with [Beres]."

The coalition led by Beres, 70, champions socially conservative candidates and causes. Its Web site describes the group as "Oregon's leading grassroots organization defending our Godly heritage." The group opposes abortion, gay rights, and stem cell research. It is affiliated with the national Christian Coalition, which was founded in 1989 by television evangelist Pat Robertson.

The group confirmed Beres is under investigation for alleged molestation. According to The Oregonian, Beres blamed "personal and political enemies" for the reports and said, "I never molested anybody."

He's been a strong warrior in the crusade against abortion, so our one issue voters out there can give him a pass on this, right?

The Power of Kashi...

I have taken a liking to Kashi GoLEAN Crunch! cereal. It was on sale and we bought some, and it was yummy.

But there are side effects. At fist I didn't want to blame the Kashi. But as it turns out I am not the only one.

Todd has discovered the Power of Kashi as well.

There ought to be a warning on the label. I may start a support group...
