From the Book of Mark, Chapter 12:
38(O)In His teaching He was saying: "Beware of the scribes who like to walk around in long robes, and like (P)respectful greetings in the market places,
39and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets,
40(Q)who devour widows' houses, and for appearance's sake offer long prayers; these will receive greater condemnation."
Do you need to hear it in your favorite translation? So sayeth King James.
12:38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and [love] salutations in the marketplaces,
12:39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:
12:40 Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
Yes, he was talking about people just like you, and your vain, arrogant friends.
Ponder on your pride and avarice.
